it is a religious construction that got importance during the 11th and 13th centuries.it takes its name from its

cupola that is covered with lead and has been dedicated to virgin mary. The church is shaped as a basillica and is

an interesting sample of the middle age byzantine religious architecture.
when used as a monastery, this construction together with its annexed buildings, represented one of the most

important centers of religious education of the middle age.
owing to its position building place, it is supposed to be a religious site since the beginning of christianity

(1st century); it is very probable that the virgin mary visited this place too.
